"A new spirit of progress matches the vision of its people"
So, the word "renaissance" was being thrown around in Detroit long before the 1967 riots, as it happens. Why, just listen to former Mayor Jerry Cavanagh, who narrated this 1965 doco, made to showcase the fabulosity of Detroit as part of a bid for the 1968 Olympics. Olympics that were held in Mexico City. (Detroit came in second place.)
Were it not for buildings like the Masonic Temple and the towers of Lafayette Park, you might swear the film was made in some other town. Most diverse city in the country...no more poverty...growing for the future...Where is this magical place? Also, does anyone have a time machine?
The second part of the film is linked below.
